A very warm and cozy place. They have great coffee for brain and soul. I also miss their white tea and numerous joyful afternoon.
Amherst coffee is a small, locally owned coffee house in Amherst, MA. The drink menu is fairly short compared to most modern coffee houses. They had two coffee choices, a dark and a light. Their French roast (dark) was quite good; I don't try the light roast. Their espresso was average. They do make lattes, but don't have flavors. The baristas are quite nice. It was fairly crowded when we were there; we ended up sharing a table with another couple. I would recommend this place for a nice cup of coffee from a locally owned business.
They open very early. I always took a cup of hot before my early Peter Pan Bus.
I've had mixed feelings about this place since the renovation. The locally own business, and friendly feel is gone. The lavish chairs and tables, the secluded group benches, the overtly formal attired and clean cut bartenders and barista, no more house blend wine option. it screams rich and corporate and urban, and cliquish
Amherst Coffee with its new renovations is definitely a good place for coffee. The kind of crowd it attracts is def. this cafe's prized possession. The reason for those three stars is simply because their cocktail menu needs a lot of work. I had the OLD 'SOUL' and few other drinks. My 'soul' was about to leave my body after I had that drink. Jokes aside, the place has a lot of potential and I will be visiting again for their fine coffee.
Edit: this used to be my favorite place to go for espresso. However, my most recent visit left much to be desired. Someone took my drink while I was waiting, which could easily be avoided if they adopted a name system. The espresso also tasted more burnt than it did previously (similar to Northampton Coffee).
Previous: To be fair, I've only had their espresso and will only be having their espresso. It's just that good. Every latte I get has a smooth, rich finish that makes me want to stop here everyday. I can confidently say that their espresso is the best I've ever had, and I've had espresso from around the country and Europe. Nothing comes close. My advice is that if you get a large latte, get an extra shot of espresso in it to balance out the milk a bit.
