This well-run organization has moved several pianos for me, and everything went off without a hitch. The crew was always punctual, helpful, and spent time on activities that were not in our contract. (Once, we did not have the correct floor protectors, but they conjured these up so that our wood floors would not sustain long-term pressure damage.) Anybody with a working truck, and with access to unemployed laborers, can hang out their shingle in the unregulated moving and hauling business. Do take care: I have heard some real horror stories. I truly love the concept of entrepreneurs entering businesses for the first-time with few barriers to entry, but they first need to purchase--and have experience using--specialized moving equipment needed to navigate difficult home situations. Manhandling a grand can cause many of thousands of dollars in repair costs, to a home and to the piano, but too many movers-and-haulers carry inadequate or no insurance. Worse, if a laborer is hurt in your home, you, the homeowner, may be liable, and your home insurance may not cover this risk.
Finally, take care to avoid misleading promotions that appear to identify a moving company with another well-known local institution. Bad-faith advertising is highly correlated with a lousy business model. My friends have learned this the hard way, don’t you!
