Quite possibly the worst therapist in existence. I saw the guy for about 2 months, during the course of which I got the overwhelming sense that his primary objective was to keep you coming back as all of his advice seemed geared towards this end. All of his useful advice can basically be summed up as 'exercise helps you feel better' which everyone should know already anyways, and if you didn't, there ya go, I just told you. Any doubts I had as to his parasitic money grubbing nature were removed when after I told him I no longer wanted his services and he sent me a bill for appointments beyond that date of my last appointment. Upon my refusal to pay he submitted his fraudulent charges to a debt collection company to f%#! up my already depression laden life more than before. Stay away at all costs, go anywhere but here.
If you have trauma, this is your guy! For real, it doesn't matter how bad, rape, war, car accident, family deaths, he is the master of EMDR. EMDR is a very special but simple treatment. It can take from 2 to 10 visits. The more open you are the less time it might take. Now if you are not receptive that treatment don't give him a bad review. You have to first be open to share your true feelings so you can get past them,. If you are not willing to do that it is not the practitioners fault! If you are willing to open up, EMDR can target traumatic memories and help your mind accept them. It has helped me deal with 3 car accidents and the loss of a very close family member.
flash forward to this month. i got voicemails from two different receptionists asking me to call to set up some sessions for the month. one of the messages alluded to the knowledge that I would be enrolled in [my insurance] as of the first. I called back and was transferred directly to the doctor's voicemail. i gave my name, insurance, and number and mentioned that someone from his office had called me. The doctor called me back and left me a message sounding utterly clueless as to who I was. There had clearly been no communication between the doctor and the receptionists. In the message he told me I needed to tell him my insurance and "what it is you're looking for." Funny, since various receptionists had this information, and I had just said it on the voicemail I left him.
All I took away from this was that for a place that is supposed to help people and listen to them, they sure suck at communicating and they certainly do nothing to relieve any anxiety whatsoever.
Based on my brief experience with High St, I would never go to them in 10000 years.
Then, as though this weren't all enough of a useless pain, the initial barking dog receptionist called me the next day because the doctor had asked her to call and confirm my appointment. When I said that I had just made that appointment by speaking to the doctor the previous day she said, "oh, well, lots of the receptionists here don't communicate." Right, because that has anything to do with me speaking directly to the doctor.
I went here for several months after a depressive bout and found John's advice very helpful. He was very trusting, considerate and I felt an ability to talk to him non-judgmentally about my problems. I plan on seeing John in the future if I should have a need for any additional therapeutic help while in the area and I consider him a friend.
I called in the middle of August asking if they took the insurance I would have as of Sept 1st. I spoke to a woman who had absolutely no idea whether or not they took that insurance, asked me to 'hold on' numerous times while she spoke to other people in the background, had my ear blown out by an insanely loud dog, still got no answer, but had my information taken down at least two separate times without any indication why I was repeating the exact same information. (to be clear, i was not asked to repeat. i was asked later in the conversation as though it had never happened the first time.)
I called back and spoke to him, told him my insurance, etc. Wasn't I surprised to find out that even though I was called this month because they knew I had just enrolled in [my insurance], THEY DONT EVEN TAKE THAT INSURANCE. Thanks for wasting my time! Despite this, the doctor convinced me to set up an appointment with him to see if he was "right for me" by telling me they would only charge me if I set up a second appointment.
